Maribelle passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center in Dickinson. Mary Elsa Belle (Maribelle) was born November 13, 1916 at Killdeer, ND, the daughter of Pete A. (Little Pete) Peterson, a Swedish immigrant who had homesteaded north of Killdeer and Carrie (Beck) Peterson who had moved with her family to North Dakota from Texas. Maribelle lived on the family ranch between the Killdeer Mountains and the badlands until 1933 when her father sold part of his land and moved to a smaller ranch in the badlands. While growing up, Maribelle and her sister, Dorothy helped their father with the ranch work which they thoroughly enjoyed. They spent much time in the saddle. Maribelle met a young man, George Summerfield from Oregon who worked on and off for her father. On June 1, 1938 Maribelle and George were united in marriage at Dickinson. Their honeymoon was spent at a hay camp on the Ft. Berthold Reservation where Maribelle cooked for the crew. In 1939 they moved to the Oregon City area where their three boys were born. In 1946 they returned to a small ranch north of Killdeer where they raised their boys. In 1960 the family moved to Killdeer. Maribelle began working as a clerk for Wetsch?s Jack & Jill Grocery Store and worked until the early 1980?s. After retirement she continued to live in Killdeer. Maribelle and her sister, Dorothy had a very special bond throughout their lifetime. She enjoyed reading poetry, bowling and traveling with friends on various bus tours. Maribelle was a member of the Do Nothing Club, Card Club, Happy Club, Homemakers Club, St. John?s Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle there. She was great at getting people together for any type of gathering, always taking care of details behind the scenes. Maribelle was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many as well. One of her favorite quotes was: ?I had a good life, I?ve seen what I wanted to see and I was with the people I wanted to be with. ?Survivors include two sons: George Dale Summerfield of Mandan, ND and Gary (Vicki) Summerfield of Minot, ND; a sister, Dorothy Martin of Killdeer; four grandchildren: Shane Summerfield and Kelly Summerfield both of Killdeer, Lane Summerfield of Vero Beach FL and Carrie Summerfield and her husband, Shawn Stewart of Fargo, ND; six great-grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews: Maryann (Jerry) Fettig of Dickinson, Bob (Sandy) Martin of Coalinga, CA and Ron ((Esther) Martin of Killdeer.
