Funeral Mass for Marie Geck, 89, of Elgin, ND will be 10 a. m. (CST), Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, ND with Father Arul Joseph celebrating. Burial will follow at 3 p. m. (CST) in the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation will be from 6 p. m. ? 9 p. m. (CST) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7 p. m. (CST). Visitation will continue Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church one hour prior to the service. Marie passed away peacefully Friday August 14, 2009 at Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center, Elgin, ND. She had been a resident of Dakota Hills Housing, Elgin, ND since November of 2005Marie W. Miller was born September 14, 1919 at Haymarsh, ND to Joseph and Matilda (Nagel) Miller. While growing up in Haymarsh, she attended country schools and graduated from Glen Ullin High School. Soon after graduating, she moved to Chicago, IL. She was employed at the telephone company in Winnetka, IL as a training instructor. She met and married Wayne Mattson from Chicago, IL, and had one child, Sandra, from this marriage. After Wayne was killed in action in WW II in 1943, she relocated to Sacramento, CA and worked for the telephone company as a training instructor there. While visiting her family in ND, she became engaged to Edward M. Geck. They were united in marriage on April 14, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. To this union four children were born. Ed and Marie owned and operated Geck?s Clothing and Eddie?s Super Value until Ed?s retirement in Dec of 1978. Marie managed the bakery at the Glen Ullin Super Valu until her retirement in 1999. She continued to bake her delicious pastries, pies, breads, rolls, kuchen and strudel for family and friends from her home. Whenever you walked into her kitchen, there was always the aroma of baked goods. She was also an excellent cook and her specialty was fried chicken. While she was home raising her children, she tended a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a daily mass attendant for many years. She was also a member of Catholic War Vets Ladies Auxiliary. Marie is survived by two sons; Thomas (Jo Ellen) Geck, Milton, FL and Timothy (Bonnie) Geck, Thornton, CO; three daughters; Sandra (Kenneth) Wandler, Kent, WA, Patricia (Richard) Soyk, Dickinson, ND and Mary Siewert, Fargo, ND; former son-in-law, Larry Siewert, Dickinson, ND; 13 grandchildren, Valorie Wandler, Hebron, ND, Daniel (Shelly) Wandler, West Richland, WA, Kathleen Wandler, Kent, WA, Eileen (Allen) Pippin, Charles Coons, Bismarck, ND, David (Joy) Geck, LaVista, NE, Gina Geck, Vancouver, WA, Alicia Geck, Seattle, WA, John Geck, Mandan, ND, Brett Geck, Baker, MT, Dawn Siewert, Fargo, ND, Jacob Siewert, Dickinson, ND, Michael Geck, Mandan, ND; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Josephine Muller, Sacramento, CA, brothers, Joe Muller, Glen Ullin, ND and Ted Miller, Carson City, NV. Marie is preceded in death by both parents; first spouse, Wayne Mattson in 1943, her second spouse, Ed in 1994, sisters, Ella Miller and Rose Mraz, brothers, Carl, William and Lawrence.
