A Funeral Mass for Marie (Stoltz) Sickler, 101, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 am Friday, September 6, 2024 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Monsignor Thomas Richter celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visitation for Marie will be 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary being led by the Catholic Daughters at 6:00pm.
Marie passed away August 28, 2024 at St. Benedicts Health Center.
Marie Clara was born May 5, 1923 in Richardton, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Braulick) Hammerschmidt. She grew up and attended school in Richardton, graduating from St. Mary’s in 1941. She worked for a short time in the office of US Rubber Company in Los Angeles, CA. She also worked as Rosie the Rivetor during WWII in LA and San Francisco. Marie married Michael Karl Stoltz on November 27, 1944 in Spokane, WA. The couple was blessed with six children. They had lived in Spokane, WA for fifteen years before moving to Mesa, AZ in 1963, where they lived until 1969. Dickinson has been home for Marie since 1969. Mike passed away 1976. Marie was a homemaker and she worked at the S&L Store in downtown Dickinson. Marie married Valentine Sickler on May 9, 1983 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. As her family grew, family gatherings were always a special event. Valentine passed away in 2002. Marie enjoyed keeping busy with sewing, bowling, cards and crafts. She volunteered her time and service to Meals on Wheels and Queen of Peace Catholic Church where she was also a choir member, reader and a Catholic Daughter.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Jeanette Weaver of Denver, CO, Michele Stoltz of Dickinson and Gisele (Fred) Walter of Fullerton, CA; sons, Terrance (Joann) Stoltz of Reardan, WA and Thomas Stoltz of Springfield, MO; step-sons, Art (Rose) Sickler, Norbert Sickler and Bob (Roz) Sickler of Dickinson; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchild and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; step-daughters-in-law, Loretta Sickler and Janel Meduna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary; husbands, Mike K. Stoltz and Valentine Sickler; infant son, Michael Dennis; daughter-in-law, Susan Stoltz; step-son, Larry Sickler; brothers, Frank Hammerschmidt, Joe (Mary) Hammerschmidt; sisters, Genevieve Hammerschmidt, Rose Born, Loretta Hardy, Louise Schmidt, Florence Hammerschmidt, Frieda Kuntz, Eleanor Hoff; and step-daughter, Arlene Sattler.
