Marie Wolfe

Marie A. Wolfe, 78, of Dickinson, ND, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at her home, with her family by her side. The eldest of seven children, Marie Anne Urlacher was born September 2, 1937 to Philip P. and Otilia Hildegard (Messer) Urlacher on their farm in Hettinger County. She attended country school and helped her parents raise the younger siblings. As a child, Marie would gather baby chicks under her skirt, like a mother hen. She grew up to be a very loving and compassionate woman. Marie met Arthur J. Wolfe at a wedding dance at the Highway Inn, west of Dickinson, which was also known as the “Sheep Shed”. The couple was united in marriage on September 14, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England and made their home on the family farm northeast of Dickinson, where they raised three children. Marie loved living on the farm and working side by side with Arthur. She helped with field work (ran her own combine) and helped with livestock. Marie enjoyed baking (especially butterhorns!), and never let anyone leave hungry, often saying “Eat so your brain works. ” She also loved gardening, dancing, listening to country music, traveling (no longer than a week) and helping her kids with their projects. She was a very giving person of both her time and talents. She truly cherished time spent with her family especially her grandchildren. Her last two years were spent battling pancreatic cancer but she was still always thinking of others. Marie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arthur; children, Karen (Kelly) Meidinger of Bismarck/Lincoln, Duane (Joan Marx) of Dickinson; and Judith (Anthony) Straquadine of Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren, Zachary & Alexis Wolfe; adopted granddaughter, Miranda (Jacob) Klemetson; grandchildren, Marie, Joshua, and Nora Straquadine; grand-kitty, PussPuss Meidinger; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Oliver Klemetson; sisters, Maggie Kathrein of New England, Ann (Marv) Wert of New England, and Jean (Dan) Zastoupil of Dickinson brothers, Philip H. (Clem) Urlacher of Regent, Mike (Angie) Urlacher of New England, Jake (Lynelle) Urlacher of Dickinson; sister-in-law, Shirley (Alvin) Ficek of Rapid City; brother-in-law, Marvin Messer, Glendale, AZ and many nieces, nephews, and other family. She is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, John and Caroline (Stoltz) Wolfe; brother-in-law, Joe Kathrein and sister-in-law Marlene Messer. Treasure and honor her memory and keep her spirit alive in your love and caring for one another. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a. m.
