A graveside service for Marilyn Y. Root, age 78, will be 11:00 a. m. CDT, Monday, June 20, 2016 at ST. John UCC Cemetery, Hebron with Pastor Gaylund Olson officiating. In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, she will be buried next to Armin. Marilyn passed peacefully into the hands of her maker on March 1, 2016 at the Zumbrota Care Center in Zumbrota, MN. Marilyn was born November 19, 1937 in Dunn County, ND, the daughter of Matt Remsing and Goldie Remsing (Brown). Marilyn thoroughly enjoyed athletics and the outdoors. She grew up on a farm and loved all animals, especially her pony Blossom. As a high school athlete she won numerous track and basketball awards, but later in life, baseball became her passion. Marilyn graduated from Dunn Center High School and later received a teaching certificate from Dickinson State College in Dickinson, ND. In 1956, Marilyn began teaching in a rural one-room school north of Hebron, ND and as part of her salary she received room and board at the home of her future in-laws, where she met the love of her life, Armin C. Riedlinger. Not long after, they married and settled in Hebron, North Dakota. Armin and Marilyn owned and operated A & M Construction until Armin’s untimely passing in 1976. Upon his death, Marilyn earned her Associates Degree, which qualified her to work with individuals with intellectual development disorder until her retirement from the Lewiston-Altura School system in 2003. Marilyn enjoyed camping and fishing, sewing and quilting, and spending time with her grandkids. She was a season ticket holder and diehard Minnesota Twins fan. Therefore, her family happily scheduled events around game time. Marilyn is survived by her sister, Beverly (Ted) Trinka of Zumbrota; brothers, Darrell (Jo) Remsing of Mission, TX, and Donovan Remsing of Zumbrota; sister-in-law, Lorraine Remsing of Thermopolis, WY; daughters, Bev (Paul) Tupper of Mazeppa and Jerilyn Brown of Louisville, KY; son, Todd Riedlinger of Roosevelt, UT ; six grandchildren; Tawny (Andre) Hernandez of Phoenix, AZ, Brynn (Mitch) Huneke of Washington, DC, Jessica Wallace of Springfield, MO, Lucas Riedlinger, Jackson Riedlinger and Samuel Riedlinger of Roosevelt, UT. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Armin Riedlinger; parents, Matt Remsing and Goldie Remsing (Brown); and brother, Bill Remsing. Arrangements were provided by Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, MN.
