Marion passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, MT. Marion E. Hanson was born on January 15, 1917, a daughter of Albert and Ella (Roget) Fost on the family homestead near Willard, MT. Marion grew up on the family farm, attending country school at Willard, and high school in Baker, graduating in 1936. Marion met Harry F. Hanson, and the two were married on October 16, 1937, in Miles City, MT. To this union two sons were born, Russell H. and Randy D. After their marriage, Marion and Harry lived in Baker where Harry was a mechanic. Later, Marion and Harry moved to Glendive, MT and a year later to Hettinger, ND. At the start of WWII, Marion and Harry returned to Willard and took over the operation of the Fost farm. In 1949, Marion and Harry bought the Willard Farmers Union Store and Post Office. Marion became the Postmaster at Willard, and served as Postmaster for 30 years. In September of 1979, Marion and Harry retired and moved into Baker where they made their home. Marion raised her sons with the same values she learned from her parents; being together and doing things together were very important; good communication was essential, and the boys knew if there was a problem they could talk to their mother about it. Marion had a strong love for her Lord, and her service to Him was the center of her life and her family?s life. Marion was a faithful and dedicated member of the American Lutheran Church in Baker. In her spare time, Marion was involved with just about every organization and service group in Fallon County! Marion was most actively involved with her Church, R. S. V. P. , Hospital Helpers and Pinkies, Senior Center and O?Fallon Historical Society and Museum. She had a strong desire to help anyone who needed her assistance. In 1998, Marion was rewarded for her time and contribution to society by being named Montana Mother of the Year. Marion received this honor by dedicating her life to her community, her church and above all, her family. Marion is survived by her son, Randy (Valerie) Hanson, Havre, MT; her brother, Raymond (Jessie) Fost, Willard, MT; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Chris) Kelker, and their children, Courtney, Marissa and Ellie, Amy Lefthand, and her children, Melvin, Hannah, Trinity, and D. J. Wyatt (Merinda) Hanson, and their children, Brisco and Caitlyn ,and T. J. Hanson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Ella, her loving husband, Harry, and her son Russell. At the family?s request, Memorials may be made to the Willard Community Club, or O?Fallon Museum, or Fallon Medical Complex Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
