Funeral services for Marion Ruedell ( Rudy) Marker, 86, of Belfield,ND, will be held at 9:30 a. m. Monday, May 7, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home, with Rev. Scott McKirdy, officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p. m. (Central Time) Monday at the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Sunday May 6, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Rudy passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Rudy Marker was born March 23, 1921, in Canalou, MO, the son of Orville and Belle (Beard) Marker. Shortly after birth, his family relocated to Key West, OK, where his father was employed by Texaco. Rudy attended Golden Valley Elementary in Key West, and graduated from Stroud High School in 1940. He began studying civil engineering at Murray Junior College in Tishomingo, OK. Following the outbreak of World War II, Rudy was drafted in May, 1942, into the U. S Army, where he served as a Survey and Instrument Man in the glider infantry, drawing maps for airfields in England, France, and Belgium. He was awarded four Bronze Service Stars while rising to the rank of Corporal with the 876th Airborne Engineer Aviation Battalion before being discharged in December, 1945. Following his return from the war, Rudy became employed with Fry Roofing in Stroud, OK. He married Vada Cole in July, 1946, and moved to Fittstown, OK. In 1952, they moved to Duncan, OK to join Amerada Petroleum Company, which later transferred them to Prague, OK in 1956. He and Vada had four children before Vada?s death in a car accident in November, 1962. He later met Vivian Allene Crail (nee Daniel), a widow with two children, and they were married in Tulsa, OK in June, 1964. They lived in Prague, OK until 1968, when Amerada transferred the family to Belfield, ND. Rudy retired as a Lease Maintenance Operator from Amerada Hess Corporation in 1986. Rudy and his wife, Allene, enjoyed traveling and seeing the country in their camper. They helped organize the formation of the Town & Country Square Dance Club of Belfield, and served as Presidents of the club for many years. Rudy was an avid bowler, once earning a berth at the National Seniors Bowling Tournament in Florida. Rudy also enjoyed fishing, tending his yard, playing with his dogs, any televised sporting activity, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a 29-year member of Wm. C. Blair Post #144 of the American Legion in Belfield, and a member of the B. P. O. Elks Lodge #1137 in Dickinson for a number of years. Following a stroke, heart attack, and the onset of dementia, Rudy was admitted to St. Benedict?s Health Center in April, 2005, where he remained until being hospitalized April 29th. Rudy is survived by his wife, Vivian Allene, of Belfield, ND; two daughters, Yvonne McCombs of Depew, OK, and Teri (Raymond) Owens of Anchorage, AK; one son, Allen, of the Philippines; two step-sons, Ron (Donna) Crail of Dickinson, ND, and Erick Crail of Bloomington, MN; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Vada; a daughter, Donita; and two brothers, Donald and James.
