A funeral Mass for Marjorie Havelka, 76, of Coon Rapids, MN, formerly of Dickinson, will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Jordan Dosch celebrating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery, New Hradec, ND.
Visitation for Margie will be 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 20th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m.
Margie passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Mercy Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN.
Marjorie was born August 5, 1941 in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Fure) Skalsky. As a young girl, she attended Country School – Olin #2, north of Glen Ullin, through the eighth grade. Following grade school, she received a diploma from Mandan before she could go to high school. Marjorie graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1959. Throughout high school, she had several jobs. She worked at a clothing store, grocery store, soft serve ice cream store and she babysat. Margie went to Mount Marty Catholic College in Yankton, SD, where she studied accounting. She became an employee at an office supply store in Dickinson as a typist/bookkeeper and she also worked at a Co-op organizing commodities. Margie was involved with a Catholic Youth Organization and she enjoyed softball and was quite a ‘good’ player. On October 16, 1961, Margie married Robert Havelka in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin. They were blessed with four children, Gail, Glenn, Gregg and Gary. Together they raised their family on a dairy farm northeast of South Heart. They retired from the farm in 1987. Margie worked at the Donut Hole in Dickinson and as a cook for Stockmen’s Livestock. Bob passed away in 1997. Coon Rapids, MN later became Margie’s final home. Margie enjoyed life and being a member of several organizations. She loved gardening, canning, puzzles, Sudoku and crossword puzzles. She was a faith-filled woman who also served as a CCD teacher and confirmation teacher. Margie will be forever loved and dearly missed.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Gail (Mike) Kostelecky of Woodbury, MN; sons, Glenn (Jeane Martinez) of Westminster, CO, Gregg (Nancy Knaup) of Bismarck, Gary (Lisa Ficek) of Coon Rapids, MN; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step-great-grandchild; sisters, Carol Schmidt of Dickinson, Florence Cline of Glen Ullin, Delores (Robert) Kottre of Beulah; brothers, Eugene (Martha) Skalsky of Pensicola, FL, Joseph (Lynn) Skalsky of Albuquerque, NM; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (1997); father, Joseph Skalsky; mother, Elizabeth Skalsky-Kaip; step-father, Steve Kaip; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
