A Funeral Mass for Marjorie Nelson Smith, 94, of Baker, MT will be 10:00 a. m. , Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Baker with Father Thomas Tobin celebrating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Community Cemetery. Visitation for Marjorie will be 4:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Monday May 20th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Marjorie passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Marjorie Nelson Smith was born August 18, 1918 in Ismay, the daughter of James and Mable (Lawrence) Kochel. She grew up and attended 1st and 2nd grade in a one room country school in Twin Buttes, south of Ismay, most times riding her horse bareback or with a buggy. Her schooling continued in Baker where she graduated in 1936 with 36 classmates. She went on to attend college at Billings Business College. In 1939, Marge began working at the Baker National Bank. On July 14, 1940, Marjorie was united in marriage to Edward Nelson. To this union, Joseph, Virginia, and Martin were born. Together they raised their family in Baker, where Marjorie lived her entire life. In 1944, Marge worked in the Clerk of Court, Superintendent of Schools and Assessors offices. In 1962, she began working as teller for Bank of Baker and was there until 1983, when she retired. In April 2008, Marjorie was married to Glenn Smith. Marjorie especially loved the Fallon County Museum and the rich history of Fallon County. She was devoted to her faith and St. John’s Church. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, golfing, and playing cards, especially bridge, whist and pitch. Marjorie is survived by sons, Joseph (Vicky) Nelson of Great Falls and Martin (Susan) Nelson of Baker; daughter, Virginia (Will) Terpening of Spokane, WA; sister-in-laws, Helen, Darleen, and Merna; eight grandchildren, Mike (Rebecca) Nelson, Kevin (Lindsey) Nelson, Meggie (Jeremy) Kotthoff, Jeff (Brie) Terpening, Evan (Diana) Terpening, Blaine Terpening, Marjorie (Chris) Hensz, and Ann Nelson; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edward and Glenn; and four brothers, Larry, Reid, Kenny and Robert Kochel.
