Marjorie Sparlund

Marjorie Hawn was born April 8, 1920, on a farm near Regent, North Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Enoch) Hawn. She was the second of 14 children. She attended the Regent Elementary School. She quit school to work as a housekeeper for various families to help feed the family. She worked for the Carl Sparlund family where she met the love of her life, Earnest Sparland. They were married at Mott, ND on May 10, 1938, with $35. 00 in their pockets. They lived on a farm in Slope County (Dover Community) for 10 years and moved to New England in 1948. She loved to crochet and do other kinds of needlework and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed having lots of company and cooked many great meals for friends and relatives. She liked visiting with everyone. Marjorie is survived by her four daughters, Gladys (Herb) Multhaup, New England, Fern (Roy) Hewson, New England, Lillian (Fid) Fitterer, Great Falls, Mont. , and Margie (Mike) Koffler, New England; one son, Earl (Sandra Morland) Sparlund, San Marcos, Calif; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two brothers, Gene (Rose) Hawn, Mott, and Lawrence (Delores) Hawn, Roy, Wash. ; seven sisters, Alice Olsen, Lewiston, Idaho, Rose (Phil) Schmidt, Mott, Peggy (Walter) Bolte, Regent, Sadie (Dewey) Hewson, Alamo, ND, Arlene (Elmer) McMasters, Lewiston, Idaho, Darlene (Gary) Mundlin, Post Falls, Idaho and Joan (Richard) Hintz, Bentley, ND; sisters-in-law, Twila Hawn, Mott, and Audrey Hawn, Georgia; and a special friend, William Schmidt, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earnest Sparlund and Rudy Gatzke; her parents; three brothers, John, Charles and Earl; sister, Audrey Hawn; son-in-law, Sarge Sargent and three grandchildren. Special thanks to St. Benedict?s Health Center from the family for the special care our mother and grandmother received.
