Marlene passed away Monday, January 21, 2019 at her home in Dickinson.

Marlene Marie was born April 26, 1938 in Dickinson, the daughter of Charles and Caroline (Freed) Meschke.  As a young girl, she attended school in Dickinson. Marlene married Gerald Schopp on March 10, 1963.  The couple made their home in Dickinson where they raised their three daughters, Kim, Karla and Bobbie.  Together Marlene and Jerry owned and operated the Sims Café in downtown Dickinson for 13 years before managing the Ivanhoe Inn for an additional 10 years.  Marlene spent most of her life in the food service industry… a very gifted cook.  She is well known for her time working at Mulligans, doing so until last fall.  She satisfied many hungry folk in our community for many years.  She was very giving of her time and talents, sewing clothes for her daughters, Barbie clothes sewn to send overseas, and many hours spent baking goods to share with friends. Marlene especially enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.  She will be dearly missed.

Marlene is survived by her daughters, Kim (Mark) Banick of Turner, OR, Karla (Scott) Scholl of Horace, ND and Bobbie (Dana) Martin of Elk Grove, CA; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Katie, Alea, Madison, Hali, Miles, Jack, and Taylor; two great-grandsons, Noah and Carter; brother, Duane (Shirley) Meschke; sister-in-law, Lorraine Meschke; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Caroline Meschke; husband, Gerald “Jerry” Schopp (2014); brothers, Maynard and Don Meschke; sister-in-law, Evelyn Meschke.

Our Mom would like to ‘Thank’ all her wonderful friends, Terry and Nancy Ferderer, her great neighbors, and a special ‘Thank You’ to her nieces and nephews, Diane and Jerry Decker, Dennis Meschke, Carrie and Tyson Jung.
