Funeral Service for Marlys Spriggs, 83, of Baker, MT will be 10:30 a. m. Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, with Rev. Mark D. Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at Bonnievale Cemetery, Baker. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Family receiving friends from 7:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Marlys passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker, MT. A life long resident of Fallon County, Marlys was born August 7, 1926 to Gulnare and Rudolph Lutts on the family farm near Carlyle, Montana. She attended country school and graduated from Baker High School in 1944. Marlys completed her training to become a teacher and taught school in Chimney Creek. Following her marriage to Walter Spriggs in Ollie, June 21, 1946, they moved to Baker and were blessed with three children; DiAnn, Steve and Gerald. Walt worked as a mechanic in the Baker area until his death in 1965. Marlys continued to live and raise their children in Baker. In 1973 Marlys married Wilford Lindstrom and they were together until 2000. Until her children left home, Marlys was a stay-at-home mom. She was an active member of the Baker Community Church, Boy Scouts, 4-H, and Baker Homemakers Club. After the children left home, she worked at Price?s Hardware and the Fallon County Times. Marlys was always teaching, and sharing with her family and friends in her kind, gentle, but firm way. She loved plants and flowers, especially pink roses and African violets. She was a wonderful cook. She could make cream gravy from anything, and could make both crusts for an apple pie, before her daughter could peel the first apple. A master seamstress, anything she sewed look as good on the inside as it did on the outside. Marlys taught herself to knit when her first grandchild was born, by knitting slippers for him. She knit or crocheted blankets for every new baby she knew. Her walls were covered with blue and purple ribbons, which she won at the Fallon County Fair for her afghans, blankets and quilts. Marlys was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Rudolph and Gulnare; her sister Lolita Hazel; brother Robert; and husbands Walt, the love of her life; and Wilford. She is survived by her sisters, Juel Baker of Indianapolis and Shirley Nunberg of Wibaux; Children, DiAnn (Bob) Hollar of Beaumont, Texas; Steve (Bonnie) and Gerald (Connie) Spriggs of Baker; Grand children, Wally (Gayle) and Daniel (Judith) Hollar, Barbara (Franco) Multari and Shelly (A. R. ) Morris, Shannon, Kristofer, and Ryan Spriggs; and two Great-grandchildren, Estella and Luca Multari. In addition there are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
