Mass of Christian Burial for Marlys Jean Susa, 75 of Wheaton, MN formerly of Baker, MT will be 10:00 a. m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker with the Reverend Thomas Tobin celebrating. Rite of Committal will follow in St. John?s Catholic Cemetery at Baker. Visitation will be 4:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Friday, February 3rd, with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Marlys passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Marlys Jean Kirkup was born on November 22,1936 the daughter of Joseph Robert and Emma Mathilda (Lipka) Kirkup in Graceville MN. She grew up and attended schools in Wilmot, SD graduating from High School in 1955. Marlys attended the Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1958. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge MN from 1958 to 1969. She moved to Fallon County in 1969 where she worked as a registered nurse both in the hospital and nursing home in Baker. Marlys moved back to South Dakota for a year and worked at St. Ann?s Hospital in Watertown SD for a year and returned to Baker and married Ben Susa on September 1, 1972 at St, John’s Catholic Church. She also worked in Wibaux and Ekalaka MT until retirement but continued to live in Baker. In 2008 Marlys moved to Wheaton MN due to failing health and to be closer to her family were she has made her home since. Marlys was a member of the Catholic Daughter and the St. Johns Catholic Church in Baker. Survivors include her sister, Kathleen Tempel, Wheaton MN; a brother in law, Jack Marko and wife Judy, of Pelican Rapids, MN and numerous nieces nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; sister Maxine Marko and her twin sister Muriel McFarlane; two brothers in law, Bill Tempel and Arnold McFarlane and two nephews. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation.
