Martha Schiwal

Funeral Mass for Martha Schiwal, 92, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Shea celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Elizabeth’s cemetery, Lefor.

Visitation for Martha will be 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Thursday May 20th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m.

Martha passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at Evergreen.

Martha was born on August 17, 1928 in Dickinson, the daughter of Clement and Mary (Cinder) Roller. She grew up on the family farm south of Belfield where she also attended country school. Sadly, Martha’s mother passed away when she was 10, therefore she stayed on the farm to care for her siblings. One fine day at a country dance, Martha met Anton F. Schiwal and it was love at first sight. The couple got married on April 26, 1949 at St. Bernard’s Church in Belfield. They made their first home in Dickinson, later settling in Mott where they lived for over 30 years. They were blessed with four sons. While in Mott, Martha worked at the Court House for several years and at Pheasant Cafe. Martha and Anton moved back to make Dickinson their final home. After Anton passed away, Martha eventually moved and enjoyed her final days at Evergreen. Martha loved gardening and selling her fresh produce, flower gardening, sewing and baking. Her happy day cookies and soft chocolate chip cookies were the best. She especially loved her grandchildren. Martha was a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish and St. Ann’s Altar Society.

Martha is survived by her sons, Howard (Faye) Schiwal of New England, Robert (Linda) Schiwal of Phoenix, AZ, Wayne Schiwal and Kenneth Schiwal of Dickinson; grandchildren, Bonnie Schiwal, Brian (Julie) Schiwal, Leslie (Mike) Tipping; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Taylor, McKenzie, Jake, and Bria.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton; parents, Clement and Mary Roller; an infant son; three sisters and two brothers.
