Martin passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024 with his family by his side at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson.

Martin was born in Dickinson on June 5, 1942, the son of Jerome and Anna (Binstock) Decker. Martin worked on the family farm as a young boy until joining his brothers working at the Sugar Factory in Billings, MT. Martin married JoAnn Roth on November 8, 1965 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Martin enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1963. After returning from his basic training in 1964, he worked for his brother at Tony’s Texaco. From there he worked for Sears, EDC, and Dairy Systems until starting his own business, Martin’s Welding & Refrigeration in 1979. In 2004, he sold the business to his son, Blaine. Martin and JoAnn enjoyed doing bus trips across the US until his Parkinson’s didn’t allow him to travel. He was so proud of his sons’ accomplishments, especially telling everyone he talked to that his son was the Mayor. Martin truly loved fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling and playing cards, especially pinochle where he rarely let you have a bid. His grandchildren were also very important to him, attending their sports activities until he could no longer attend due to his health.

Martin is survived by his wife, JoAnn of 58 years; sons, Scott (Shelly), Blaine (Denise), Mark (Val) all of Dickinson; five grandchildren; Jake Decker (special friend, Courtney), Alaynea Decker (special friend, Tyler), Bailey Decker (special friend, Kamryn), Jaydin Decker (special friend, Ethan) and Jenna Decker; brothers, Tony Decker of Dickinson, Art (Donna) Decker of South Heart; sisters, Martha (Steve) Hondl of Dickinson, Eva (Ben) Messer of Richardton; sister-in-law, Martha Decker of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Anna Decker; parents-in-law, Joe and Frances Roth; brothers, Val and Albert Decker; sisters-in-law, Margie (Richard) Lantz, Irene Decker; nephews, Todd and Michael Decker.

The Decker Family would like to thank St. Lukes Home for all the wonderful and compassionate care given to Martin throughout his stay.
