Martin Fitterer, age 82, of Glen Ullin, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Jacobsen Memorial Hospital in Elgin. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Central time on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 4:00 PM at Sacred Heart with Vigil Services at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin. Martin was born October 19, 1925, the son of Frank and Lena (Glasser) Fitterer, on the family farm in rural Glen Ullin. He was raised on the farm and educated in a country school one and a half miles from the farm. He attended college in Wahpeton in 1947 and 1948 and studied mechanics. He returned to Glen Ullin and worked at the Schneider Garage for three years, worked as a batch plant operator for Northern Improvement for 10 years and for 33 years at Fitterer Implement in Glen Ullin. He married Pauline (Polly) Schafer on October 19, 1925 at Glen Ullin. Martin loved sports especially boxing and rodeos. He also enjoyed farming and taking care of his cattle. Martin was active in his community by being a long time member of the Fire department serving both as Chief and Assistant Chief, on the Glen Ullin Development Board, Snowmobile Club, Saddle Club, Glen Ullin Park Board, and a past member of the 49ers Union. Martin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Polly, Glen Ullin, four sons: Doug; Wayne and his wife Cindy; Darcy; and Kerry and his wife Trish, all of Glen Ullin. Four grandchildren: Ryan Fitterer, Derrick Fitterer, Brooke Miller, Destinee Fitterer, and Landyn Fitterer; and two great grandchildren: Braxton Miller, and Kaiden Fitterer. He is also survived by his siblings: Joe, Tacoma, WA; Agnes Hecks, Fairfield, CA; Dan, San Diego, CA; Theresa Richardson, Signal Mountain, TN; Art, Glen Ullin; and Delphia Slavick, Billings, MT.
