Martin passed away gracefully into the arms of his savior on Monday, January 1, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson.

Martin Krank was born on August 21, 1923, the son of Christian and Anna Mary (Heiser) Krank in Dickinson. He grew up in a family of fourteen in the Schefield area. On August 31, 1948, Elsie and Martin Krank were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. The couple made their home on the farm until 1958 when their house caught fire and they decided to move to Dickinson. Together they raised their family of seven children.

Martin was a man of many talents. Although a farmer at heart, he was also a real estate appraiser, tree trimmer, oil field pumper, flipped real estate, and seeded ditches in order to provide for his family. In January 1986, he put his land in CRP and retired. He was a member of the St. Pius Verein along with many other organizations in his earlier years. He enjoyed socializing, dancing, playing music, and strumming his guitars. He enjoyed going to auctions and was proud of the “good deals” he would get. In his younger days, he enjoyed ice fishing and trapping. Martin will be remembered for his strong will and his readiness to tackle anything. Martin was very devoted to his family and was always there when help was needed.

He is survived by his children, Reyne (Dennis) Buchholz, Portsmouth, VA; Bruce Krank, Dickinson; Sheila (Leslie) Froehlich, Mandan; Tom Krank, Dickinson; and Scott (Wendy) Krank, West Fargo; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Dave) Palmer, Green River, WY; son-in-law, Alan Alpert, Dickinson; 21 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elsie (Hauck); one son, Ervin; one daughter Cyndee Alpert; six brothers, Steve, Frank, Casper, Joseph, Michael, and Richard; five sisters, Rose Roache, Margret Hirsch, Mary Ehresman, Sister Clementine, Ann Jahner, and two infant babies.
