Marvel Mae Lund was born April 9, 1916, to Christ and Kristine (Loken) Lund near Zenith, ND. After attending school in Zenith, Belfield and Model High in Dickinson, Marvel attended Dickinson Normal College and took teacher?s exams. She taught at the Paasch School in 1936-37, the Shipley School in 1937-38, and the Gaylord School in 1938-39. Marvel married Chester Molm on September 28, 1939. That same year she taught 14 children in the Krance living room. In 1950, they moved to Ellendale and Marvel returned to college and became active in WCTU. Upon returning to Belfield in 1956, Marvel taught children of her former students. Shortly after that time she began to write a column, ?South Country News? which appeared in three area newspapers. She continued to write for about 30 years serving as a voice for the community. Marvel was active in homemaker?s club, church and neighborhood activities. She had a strong Christian faith, a deep love of people and a great sense of humor. She also enjoyed writing poetry, short stories, letters to the editor and keeping a daily journal. Marvel is survived by one son, Curt (Dorothy) Molm, Belfield; one daughter, Elaine ?Bess? (Burnis) Gentry, Bakersfield, Calif. ; one brother, Iver Lund, Amherst, NH; one nephew, John ?Butch? (Sue) Molm, Washington, DC; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband.
