He attended grade school in New Salem, and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1944. Marvin served in the Navy from 1944 ? 1946, after which he attended Dunwoody Baking School. He married Lorraine Helgeson in 1950. She died in August, 1988. He worked in several bake shops including the New Salem Bakery, Benton Bakery, Rolling Pin, Cox?s Bakery and Oppiens Bakery until starting The Baker Boy Bakery in Hebron in 1955. He bought BonTon Bakery in Dickinson in 1957 and renamed it Baker Boy along with a silent partner, Albert Helgeson. Being an entrepreneur at heart, Marvin expanded the bakery by buying the Dutch Oven Bakery on West Villard in 1960. He eventually relocated the equipment in that location to King?s Supermarket and was the first bakery within a Supermarket in North Dakota. In 1969, he purchased the Mr. Big restaurant and turned it into the Baker Boy Drive-Inn Bakery. That concept was a bit ahead of it?s time, and eventually evolved into the Baker Boy Pizza and Caf?. In 1971, Marvin purchased the White Drug Cafeteria, moved it to a different location in the Big Sky Mall and changed the name to the Baker Boy Diner. In 1973, the retail space next to The Baker Boy Bake Shop became vacant. Rather than looking for another tenant, Marvin created the Baker Boy Lunch Box. In 1976, Marvin purchased a gas station on West Villard, completely remodeled it, and created The Donut Hole?. Although not owned by the Moos family nor Baker Boy, it is still open today! In 1978, he built The Donut Hole? in Mandan. Between 1976 ? 1978, Marvin and his family sold all businesses except for The Donut Hole?. Even though he could have retired, Marvin, along with his family, built Baker Boy Supply. During the next 25 years, he worked to grow The Donut Hole system, added onto Baker Boy many times, and searched the world for better equipment to allow co-workers to be more efficient and to make their work easier. He married Agnesmae Elkin on October 24, 1989, in Lake Tahoe. Marvin was a member of American Legion, Elks, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and North Dakota Bakers Association. He enjoyed fishing at Heart Butte, and all types of carpentry work, dancing, yard work and loved to watch sports. He also enjoyed singing and sang Tenor in the church choir many years ago. Baker Boy? was his playground. Marvin loved working at Baker Boy? with his many co-workers and customers that he considered friends. He loved working at Baker Boy?.
