A funeral service for Marvin Synnes, 79, of Halliday, will be 10:00 a. m. , Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killdeer with Pastor John Simonson officiating. Burial will take place in the Vang Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation for Marvin will be 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Friday, April 25th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p. m. Marvin passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, ND. Marvin Henry Peter Synnes was born October 26, 1934 on the family farm in Dunn County, the son of Martin and Hilda (Grossman) Synnes. He grew up and attended school at the Eagle Nest Country School through the eighth grade. Marvin married Ardella Rose Barthel on November 25, 1955 at Lutheran Church in Hazen. They were blessed with three children, Cheryl Ann, Greggory Marvin and Mark Allen. Together they farmed, ranched and raised their family 8 ½ miles south of Werner. Marvin enjoyed playing guitar, singing and entertaining the public at various functions, photography and developing his own photos. He also enjoyed meeting with his friends on Friday mornings at Perkins in Dickinson. He was also very active in the 70’s with C. B. Radio and with Ham Radio in the 80’s. Marvin was an active man, serving as a lifetime caretaker of Vang Lutheran Church and serving a number of years as President. He was also a member of the Eagles Club and the Sons of Norway. Marvin is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Bakken (partner, Jim Olson) of Killdeer and her children, Jaime (Lynn) Trotter and Shelby Bakken; his two sons, Greggory (Brenda) Synnes of Killdeer and their children, Lacia, Ashton, and Jaxon Synnes; Mark (Julie) Synnes of South Heart and their children, Chandler, Brady and Wyatt Synnes; 4 great-grandchildren, Sirena, Kaidence, Makiah, and Raquel, daughters of Jaime and Lynn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardella; and his parents, Martin and Hilda.
