Mary Kastner

Mary Kastner, age 95, of Glen Ullin, died Monday, August 28, 2006 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM CDT at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB as Celebrant. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8:30 at Sacred Heart with the Vigil services at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the St. Clement?s Cemetery rural Glen Ullin. Mary was born November 19, 1910 in the St. Benedict area North of Glen Ullin, the daughter of George and Mary (Kaip) Martin. She was raised on the farm and educated in country school. She married William P. Kastner on July 21, 1931 at St. Mary?s in Bismarck. Following marriage they farmed and raised their family in the Haymarsh area. Following the untimely death of her husband and son in 1959, Mary moved into Glen Ullin. Mary will be remembered for her radiant smile, her hospitality, good food, and the many quilts and afghans that she made for her family. Those remaining to share the legacy of her love include her two daughters: Shirley Kastner, Glen Ullin, ND; and Kathy (Tom) Schirado, Glen Ullin, ND; her grandchildren: Bill Schirado, David (Carrie) Schirado, Lisa (Mike) Daoust, and Laurie (Scott) Charette; and her great grandchildren: Lindsey, Thomas, Derrick, Olivia, and Autumn. She also leaves her sisters: Anna Weiand, Glen Ullin, ND; Louise (Bill) Schultz, of Billings, MT and sister-in-law: Rose Kastner, Grand Ledge, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents: Husband William P. ; her son William C. ; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Frank and Catherine Martin and George and Viola Martin; her sister and brother-in-law: Helen and Nick Weiand; and her brother-in-law: Ed Weiand.
