Funeral Mass for Mary Kay Gietzen, 70, formerly of Glen Ullin will be at 11:00 a.m., CT., Friday, January 21, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Gary Benz celebrating. Burial will follow at Haymarsh Cemetery.
Visitation for Mary Kay will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., CT., Friday, January 21st, prior to the service at the church, with a rosary being held at 10:30 a.m., CT.
Mary Kay passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 surrounded by her family at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
Mary Kay Gietzen was born on May 12, 1951 to William F. and Mary E. (Heaton) Gietzen. She was born and raised in Haymarsh, North Dakota. Mary Kay graduated in 1969 from St. Mary’s Academy in Richardton. Following school she pursued a religious vocation at Benedictine Convent in Watertown, SD. Mary Kay then transferred to St. Benedict College in St. Joseph’s MN, where she received her teaching degree. She worked as an Elementary School Teacher in Minnesota, North Dakota and Texas, where she taught as a bilingual teacher. Mary Kay will be remembered for being highly intelligent, her incredible ability to teach, and her compassion for children.
Mary Kay is survived by her mother, Mary; brothers, Russell, Glenn, Mark, Greg, Aaron, Hilary, Peter and Fred; sisters, Margaret, Anna, Virginia and Catherine; brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father; William F.; brothers, Gene and James Gietzen.
