Mary passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at the St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson surrounded by her entire immediate family. Mary, a daughter of Joe and Mary (Samek) Kostelecky, was born on May 11, 1904, in Symferopol, Russia. She came to the U. S. in 1908 with her parents and lived on a farm 11 miles south west of Dickinson. She married Frank Kudrna on July 14, 1924. She then moved to a farm 3 miles south of South Heart, where she lived until 1961 when they moved to Dickinson and she had lived there since. Into her marriage with Frank, 13 children were born. Mary enjoyed gardening; cooking- everyone loved her chicken noodle soup, baking kolaches, dancing, and old time music. Mary was a most loving and caring mother to her big family. She will always be loved and missed by her surviving family. She is survived by her five sons; Laudie (Dorothy) Kudrna, Dickinson, ND, Don (Millie) Kudrna, South Heart, ND, Raymond (Shirley) Kudrna, Overland Park, KS, Wayne (Rosalie) Kudrna, Dickinson, ND, Robert (Jeanette) Kudrna, Hettinger, ND; five daughters, Margaret (Frank) Fendrick, Billings, MT, Dorothy (Andrew) Ficek, Dickinson, ND, Eleanore (Vern) Badinger, Spokane, WA, Darlene (Bob) Betchner, Mandan, ND, and Delores (Darrold) Raab, Dickinson, ND; one daughter-in-law, Josephine (Gilbert) Kudrna, Phoenix, AZ; three step-sons, Frank Kudrna, Casper WY, Adolph Kudrna and Edward Kudrna, both of Dickinson, ND; two step-daughters, Rose (Pete) Privratsky and Minnie (Ed) Pirkl, both of Dickinson, ND; three sisters, Alice (Ed) Semerad, Spokane, WA, Emma (Victor) Semerad, Dickinson, ND, and Anna Urbanec, Dickinson, ND, forty-two grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren. Her husband, Frank, parents, one sister, three brothers, three sons, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, one step-son and one step-daughter preceded her in death.
