Mary was born on July 31, 1957 to Bud and Beverly (Henriksen) Eckstrom in Georgia. She was raised in a large family and they moved around often with her father’s job. They finally settled in Wyoming where she attended school. Mary worked at the state school in Lander before moving to Gillette where she met Larry Spethman in a small bar. In 1979 they decided to marry. Their son Raney was born in December of 1978. In 1980 they made the decision to move to Rhame, ND. Mary worked for Bowman Nursing Home caring for the residents and at the Hunter’s Table restaurant in Rhame, ND. They relocated to Baker, MT in 1987 and later welcomed a son, Virgil to the family in May of 1998.
Mary had many jobs in Baker all dealing with people. She loved children and loved working at the TLC Daycare and worked as a substitute teacher in the Baker Public School system. She is still referred to as “Miss Mary” by many in the community. Mary again dedicated her time to those in the last stage of life at the Fallon County Nursing Home. Mary was most proud of being a homemaker and being there for her family. She loved all animals of the farm and her pets.
