Mary was born September 5, 1919, in rural Dickinson, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Ficek) Kolar. She attended country school and as a young woman, she left the family farm to work for Dr. Gumper in his home. Mary was joined in marriage to Anton (Tony) Splichal on October 7, 1940. Tony passed away in March of 1962 at age 45, leaving Mary to raise their ten children. Mary loved her children dearly and dedicated her life to caring for them. After being widowed for 27 years, Mary married Tom Dvorak on February 13, 1988. They frequented the dance floor which was one of Mary?s loves in life and enjoyed playing cards with friends. Mary was a member of St. Anne?s Altar Society, Eagles Auxiliary, VFW and Red Hat Society. Being a founding member of Anchorage School and the ARC Aid Thrift Store, she spent many years as a volunteer. Volunteer time was also given to the Senior Citizens Center, Evergreen and the local nursing homes. Mary enjoyed cooking, dancing, bowling, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Her last four years were spent at Evergreen where she loved to play cards, bingo and socialize with her Evergreen family. In spite of Mary?s many struggles in life, she was a wonderful example of strength, courage and faith. She opened her heart and her door to anyone in need.
