Mary Sterns

Funeral services for Mary Sterns, 75, of Ekalaka, MT, will be 11:00 a. m. , Monday, June 9, 2014 at Stevenson funeral Home, Ekalaka, with Pastor Steve DeFord officiating. Burial will take place in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. , Monday, June 9, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Ekalaka. Mary passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Dahl Memorial Hospital in Ekalaka. Mary Belle Cline was born December 8, 1938 in Ekalaka, MT, the daughter of Alfred James and Lois Vivian (Hamilton) Cline. She grew up on the family ranch, attended country school and went on to attend 5th and 6th grade in Baker. She later graduated from Carter County High School. On October 5, 1954 she married Leo Sterns in Rhame, ND. The couple made their home on the ranch west of Ekalaka and it was here where they raised their family of three boys. In 2009, the couple moved into Ekalaka and have made it their home ever since. Mary worked side by side with Leo on the ranch. She was a great ranch hand and loved riding horses her entire life. Mary loved hunting with her boys, creating crafts, clocks, horse collars and quilting. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and canning the produce. She was well known for her homemade noodles. Mary was kind and welcoming to everyone she met and will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her husband, Leo of Ekalaka; sons Dick (Cindy) of Sheridan, WY, Rit (Sandy) and Clint (Diane) both of Ekalaka; grandchildren, Skye Ann (Michael) Hatten and Matthew Ryan Sterns; great-grandchildren, Cadence Hatten and Grady Hatten; and brother Elmer Lawrence of Springfield, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Lois Cline; siblings, Cally Mae, Leslie Harold, Daisy Irene, William Russell, Pearl Zetty, Girelda Evelyn (Tootse), Roy Merideth, and Florene Fay.
