A Funeral service for Mary Ann Vrem, 76, of Dickinson, will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dickinson with Pastors Cal Oraw and Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the family cemetery in Rugby, ND.


Visitation for Mary Ann will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 7, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson.


Mary Ann Vrem passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at her home in Dickinson.


Mary Ann Cooper was born July 5, 1936 in Rugby, the daughter of Carl and Mary Della (Johnston) Cooper. She grew up the oldest of four siblings on a small North Dakota farm. Mary Ann attended country school north of Rugby, ND, later graduating from Rugby High School in 1954. Mary Ann attended Business College in Fargo, ND. She married Marcoe D. Vrem on April 27, 1957. To this union, two sons, Loren and Jerry, were born. Together they reared their boys while Marc worked in the Soil Conservation Service. This job took the family to Rugby, Bottineau, Westhope, Hettinger, Williston, and finally to Dickinson where they retired and made their home. Mary Ann was the secretary of St. John Lutheran Church for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed crafts, cooking, as well as socializing with her friends at the Elks. She especially loved and enjoyed her four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Mary Ann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, St. John Service Committee, Dickinson Elks, DHS Booster Club, Western Dakota Auto Club, and the Sons of Norway.


Mary Ann is survived by her husband Marcoe; sons, Loren (Laurie) Vrem of Deadwood, SD and Jerry Vrem of Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Caleb, Caitlin; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth; brothers, Roger Cooper of Minot, ND and Carl “Dick” (Audrey) Cooper of Cummings, ND; sister, Carole”Tooter” (Robert) Miller of Great Falls, MT; sister-in-law, Linda Cooper of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents. The family suggests memorials to St. John Evangelical Trust Fund.
