Klee was born on September 17, 1910, in Sevastopol, Ukraine to Joseph and Sophia (Schr?der) Klee. At the age of 10 days old, Matt and his family left Europe for the United States. Matt grew up on several farms in the Dodge and Halliday area. During the 1930’s, Matt worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps as a forester in Minnesota. In 1942, he was drafted into the United States Army, and served in the Aleutian Campaign in Alaska, where he fought many battles. He was very proud of his military service and achievements, and he was especially proud of being one of the top marksmen in the entire Aleutian Campaign. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to his farm south of Halliday. He then met and married Therese M. Ferrara on November 20, 1949, in West New York, New Jersey. Together the couple lived and worked at the same farm for 50 years. His beloved wife Therese died in 2000, and Matt continued to live on the farm until June 2007, at which time he became a resident of Hilltop Home and Comfort, in Killdeer, ND. He is survived by: his two sons, Matthew (Elizabeth) of Hastings, MN, and Patrick (Cheryl) of Halliday; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Courtney, Shaun, and Jenna; one sister, Maggie Hendrickson, of Aberdeen, SD; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Therese; his parents, Joseph and Sophia; six brothers and four sisters.
