Mathew Schlatter

Funeral Mass for Mathew “Mattie” Schlatter, 86, of Bismarck, formerly of Glen Ullin, will be 10:00 a. m. CDT, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery, Glen Ullin.


Visitation will take place from 6:00 p. m. – 8:00 p. m. , Wednesday, August 7th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. , CDT.


Mattie passed away Monday, August 5, 2013 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, ND.


Mathew “Mattie” Schlatter was born July 9, 1927 on the family farm near Glen Ullin to Philip and Margaret (Geck) Schlatter. He grew up and attended the neighborhood country school. After school, he continued to work on the family farm. On November 6, 1952 Mattie was united in marriage to Frances (Wetzel) Schlatter in Glen Ullin. Together they lived on the family farm until the fall of 1954 when they moved to a farm NW of Glen Ullin. Mattie continued to live on the farm after Frances passed away on December, 10 1969. In 1977, he moved into town while continuing to farm. He made his home in Glen Ullin until this year. Mattie’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing cards, and bowling.


Mattie is survived by his siblings; Eleanore Wetzel (Glen Ullin), Margaret Navratil (Stanton), Helen Navratil (Glen Ullin), Philip Schlatter (Bismarck); and numerous nieces and nephews including, Jim (Susie), Cheryl (Keith), Kurt (Sandy), Terry (Torri), and Dale (Jodi). He is preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Margaret; and wife, Frances Schlatter.
