Matt Herberholz

Funeral Mass for Matt B. Herberholz, 93, of Dickinson formerly of New England is 10:00 a. m. Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary?s Cemetery in New England. Visitation will be from 11 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Thursday, June 28, 2007 with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the mass at the church. Matt passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Mathias Ben Herberholz was born on May 30, 1914 the son of John and Helen (Schemine) Herberholz in New England. He grew up and attended country schools and later elementary school in New England. He began working with his father on the family farm in the New England area. Matt was married to Catherine Schulz on October 15, 1935. To this union two children were born, Harvey and Delores. Together Matt and Catherine farmed on the Herberholz Homestead where they raised their children. After the death of Catherine, Matt retired and moved into Dickinson. His son, Harvey, still lives on the farm today. Matt was married to Jennie Pavlish on November 26, 1985 and they have made Dickinson their home. Matt enjoyed carpentry in his younger years and listening to old time music. Matt may have moved away from the farm, yet he would ask every chance he got, how the crops were doing and how things at the farm were. He was a lifetime member of the New England Farmers Union and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Club and a member of the Dickinson Eagles. Matt loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as all of his step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Survivors include, a son, Harvey (Vickie) Herberholz, New England; a daughter, Delores (Judeen) Brusseau, Dickinson; a step-son, Larry (Sandy) Pavlish, Glendale, AZ; two step-daughters, Karla (Bob) Kieser, Woodstock, IL and Darlene (Mike) Wolf, Fargo, ND; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, Catherine and Jennie; a brother, Joe and a sister, Margarete Wurtz and several infant brothers and sisters.
