Matt passed away, Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.
Mathias William was born July 2, 1930 in Fallon County, the son of Mike and Wanda (Rabe) Thielen. He grew up on the family farm north of Plevna. Matt attended Clark District School and later Plevna High School, graduating in 1947. Following graduation, he continued working for several years on the family owned ranch. On February 15, 1958, Matt married Lola Quincer. The couple made their home in Plevna. Matt owned and operated Thielen Ranch Company, Inc. with his brother Dan. In 1968 Thielen Ranch Company added the John Schaefer Ranch south of Plevna to its assets. This is where Matt and Lola made their home for many years. Matt was very proud of his heard of Registered Herefords, which he established and developed with his brother Dan over the years. In the spring of 1975, Matt and Lola were blessed with a son, Sam. He was happy to have his only son as part of the family operation. After years of impatiently waiting, Matt was thrilled to be a grandparent and relished the role of “Grandpa” for Taylor, Hugo, and Emma.
Matt had a very giving heart and was always willing to help anyone in need as well as volunteering his time or money to organizations in need. He never stopped learning, staying up with the latest technology. Matt was active in the community, serving on the regional PCA board, the church board, and numerous other boards. He was a founding member of the Plevna Rural Fire District and volunteered on the Plevna Fire Department for over 50 years.
Matt is survived by his wife, Lola; son, Sam (Desiree); three grandchildren, Taylor Bertsch, Hugo Thielen, and Emma Thielen, all of Plevna; brother, Dan (Doris) Thielen of Plevna; sisters, Betty (Charlie) Neumann of Northbrook, IL and Pearl (Russell) Leach of Spokane, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and Godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Wanda.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Plevna Fire Department.
