A funeral Mass for Matthew “Snow Shoe” Peterson, 42, of Mandaree, ND, will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mandaree with Fr. Roger Synek celebrating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation for Matthew will be 5:00 p. m. -8:00 p. m. CST, Thursday, September 1st at St. Anthony’s Church with a wake service being held at 7:00 p. m. CST. Matthew passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Matthew Arnold was born September 27, 1973 in Rolla, ND, the son of Marvin and Elaine B. (Longie) Peterson. Growing up he attended school in Belcourt. As a young man, he began helping his father and brother in a house moving business. They had moved many large homes over the years. Matt, as he was often called, started his own business with the help and equipment of his father and brother, Cliff and a good friend Tara “Bones” White who built most of it. In the last ten years, Matt and his brother, Cliff worked in South Dakota where they took wrecked and abandoned trucks and automobiles and rebuilt them into equipment they could use in their house moving business. Matt enjoyed singing and playing a variety of instruments which included the guitar, violin, piano and harmonica. Matt was a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of the Chippewa Tribe in Belcourt, ND. He had a special talent to learn different languages such as Native American and Spanish. Matthew especially enjoyed spending time with his children and step-children. He was described as a fun-loving, delightful, giving man who enjoyed being a help to others struggling in life. Matt is survived by his father, Marvin A. Peterson of Mandaree; son, Matthew A. Peterson Jr. of Mandaree; step-son, Jamie (Falcon) DeCoteau; daughter, Elaina Peterson; step-daughter, Candis Falcon; brother, Clifford J. Peterson of Mandaree; sisters, Melinda B. LeMelle of Omaha, NE, Brenda L. Luebbe of Milford, NE, Anna Marie Grimm of Omaha, NE; half-brothers, Marvin Peterson Jr. of AZ, Richard Peterson of AZ, Gerald Peterson of SD, Jesse Lyn Peterson of Hibbing, MN; half-sister, Rita Kay Peterson of Yankton, SD; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elaine B. Peterson.
