Funeral Services for Maureen Benz, 70, of Dunn Center will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center with Pastor Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial will follow in the Werner Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 9, 2011 from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service at Normanna Lutheran Church.


Maureen passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in Deadwood, SD.


Maureen Dahlen was born November 17, 1940 at Richardton, ND, the daughter of Albert and Irene (Cook) Dahlen. She grew up and attended school in Werner, graduating from High School in 1958. On April 19, 1959, Maureen was married to Ernest Benz at Dunn Center. Together they farmed and ranched north of Dunn Center on the Benz homestead. In 1995, they moved back into Dunn Center where Maureen has made her home since. For the past 20 years, Maureen worked in the Activities Department at Hill Top Home of Comfort. In 2000, she received the National Volunteer of the Year Award. Maureen was a member of the Normanna Lutheran Church, Secretary for the Dunn Center Library, and past member of the Ilo Homemakers. Maureen enjoyed playing cards, dancing, sewing, woodworking and crafts of many kinds. She was also a perfect hostess and always had enough food for family or friends that showed up at the table, she was known for her excellent cooking and bread making.


Survivors include her special friend, Richard, Halliday, ND; a son, Aaron Joel (Special friend, Sabrina) Benz, Killdeer, ND; a daughter, Alene (Mark) Dravitz, Fargo, ND; two brothers, Keith (Vicki) Gilje, Forsyth, MT and Dennis (Roberta) Dahlen, Halliday, ND; a sister, Dawne Voigt, Mandan, ND; three grandchildren: Trista (Special friend, Jason) Benz, Bismarck, ND and Daylen and DeDee Dravitz, Fargo, ND; two great-grandchildren, Tyra and Treyten and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; and her brother-in-law, Pete Voigt.
