Funeral Services for Max Bender, 99 of New England will be 10 a. m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the First Congregational-United Church of Christ in New England, ND, with Pastor Janel Kolar officiating. Visitation will take place from 12 p. m. to 9 p. m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Max passed away on Saturday, January 03, 2009 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Max Bender was born June 16, 1909 to Jacob and Rosina (Elwanger) Bender on the family farm west of New England. He grew up on helping on the family farm and attended school in New England, ND. On May 20, 1929 Max married Mabel M. Strehlow in Wibaux, MT. The couple made their home on the family farm and it was here where they made their living for the rest of their lives. Max and Mabel moved to New England in 1947 all the while Max continued to work on the farm. In later years Max moved to Dickinson where he lived ever since. Max enjoyed hunting and woodworking but he loved playing Golf. He spent countless hours on the golf course or watching it onTV, he even enjoyed it all year around putting inside throughout the winter. He is survived by his Daughter, Joanne Lorge of Bowman, ND; Grandchildren, Patrick Lorge; Michael Lorge; Dale Lorge; Janel Freih; Amy Oler; Brad Bender; Lisa O?Bayle; Melanie Renslow; Great-Grandchildren, Sarah Lorge; Dyan Lorge; Kayla Lorge; Max Lorge; Pete Lorge; Tara Lorge; Christina Lorge; Laura Lorge; Madison Lorge; Jaremia Lorge; Dani Krebs; Jayse Bender: Megan Renslow; Morgan Renslow; Lisha O?Boyle; Conner O?Boyle; Ashling O?Boyle; Brady O?Boyle; Shea O?Boyle; Shane O?Boyle; Shanley O?Boyle; 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. Max was preceded by his wife of 73 years, Mabel; both parents; son, Ronald Bender; Son-in-law, Gene Lorge.
