Funeral Services for Maxine T. Winters, 75 of Baker will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Baker Community Church with Pastor Jeannie Thompson, officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 3:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Maxine passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Maxine was born October 27, 1929, the daughter of Elmer T. and Emma (Fulgham) Stoner. She grew up and attended school in Vale, Oregon. She met and married Hershel Winters on May 18, 1947 in Vale. They moved to Harper, OR where they both operated a feed store for several years. They later moved to central Oregon and operated several gas stations in the area. As the family grew, they became well acquainted with Oregon, traveling and camping. As a young mother and wife, Maxine began cooking and working in food service which spanned the next 20 plus years. In 1976 she moved to Alaska to be closer to her daughter, Bonnie. While in Alaska, she worked at a nursing home in food service. Over the years, Maxine spent time with all of her children. In 1998 she moved to Baker where she retired and had made her home since. She enjoyed making quilts, attending the senior citizens center, volunteering time at the library and museum. She enjoyed reading and volunteering time to read to the residents at the nursing homes. Maxine attended the Baker Community Church where she helped teach Sunday School and Bible Classes. Her family grandchildren and great grandchildren were her first love. Survivors include, a son, Tim (Colleen) Winters, Hermiston, OR; two daughters, Vicki (David) Gustafson, Baker, MT and Bonnie (Richard) Marsh, Echo, OR; her former husband, Hershel Winters, Port Orford, OR; a brother, Robert Stoner, Vale, OR; two sisters, Barbara (Bill) Hill, Madras, OR and Sharon Gardner, Vale, OR; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
