Melba passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at her home in Miles City with Roger and Amy by her side.

Melba Jane Losing was born on October 9, 1935 to Charles “Edgar” and Clemmie Mae (Cheek) Ammons, seven miles west of Waldren, Arkansas at her grandparents’ farm. Melba lived her younger years in Waldren. In 1952, her family moved to Montana.

One Sunday evening, shortly after moving to Baker, a certain young man sat behind a certain young lady at the Baptist church. A loving romance came about and Roger proposed to Melba. They were married on October 15, 1955, and they shared almost 69 years together.

In 1956, Melba and Roger moved to the farm nine miles northeast of Baker, where Melba took on the role of a farm wife. She would cook hot meals and take them to the Roger while he was in the field, and she would have a home cooked meal on the table when he got home.

Melba and Roger welcomed their first born, Keith, on July 25, 1956. Lynda was born November 24, 1960, Denise was born June 23, 1964, and on July 29, 1973, their surprise package, Amy, was born.

Melba worked at the Frost Bowl, Gambles, and Fallon Medical Complex. Later, she and Roger bought and ran an antique store called Old West Treasures. Melba loved antiques and garage saling. Roger and Melba traveled all over Montana and North Dakota, going to auction sales and garage sales. Melba passed her love for garage sales and finding a good deal onto her daughter, Amy.

In November of 1997, Melba and Roger moved to Miles City. Melba always loved to garden and reading a good book, especially an antiques treasures book or her favorite book, the Bible.

Melba got dementia around eight years ago. Roger was dedicated to her every need, along with help from Amy.

Melba is survived by her husband, Roger; daughters, Amy (Tim King) Losing and Lynda Herbst, Carey (Leroy) Tronstad; grandchildren, Braden Losing, Zachary (Katie) Burdick, Corey (Lisa) Herbst, Lacey Herbst (Dane Wang), Christopher Losing, Jereme Losing, Eric (Stephanie) Losing, and Hunter (Stacey) Losing; Scarlet Raymond, Shane (Jenny) Kiltie; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Gayle Bottoms.

She is preceded in death by her son, Keith; daughter, Denise; sisters, Della Brockel and Jean Wiseman; brother, Chuck Ammons, and her parents, Edgar and Clemmie Ammons.
