Funeral Service for Melvin George Lagge, 83, of Dickinson formerly of Hebron will be 2 p. m. , CST, Thursday, January 14, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Hebron, ND. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Hebron at a later date. Military Rites presented by Henry Biffert Post 100 of Hebron, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , MST, with the family receiving friends from 7 p. m. to 8 p. m. , MST, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, ND. Visitation will continue on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the First United Methodist Church in Hebron, ND. Melvin passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2010, in Dickinson, NDMelvin George Lagge was born to Anna (Redinger) and Jacob Lagge on January 28, 1926 in Hebron, ND. He was the eldest of eight children. Melvin enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and was a World War II Veteran. He married Irene Mutschelknaus in 1948 and they raised five children in Hebron. He worked at the Hebron Farmers Elevator for 21 years. Melvin and Irene moved to the campus of Dickinson State University in 1970 and lived in DeLong Hall where Irene was a housemother. Melvin worked in the power plant of the University and as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds until his retirement in 1991. They enjoyed college students and campus life. They moved back to Hebron briefly and then returned to Dickinson. Melvin worked with the Hebron Boy Scouts for many years and especially enjoyed their camping trips each summer. He followed his children?s activities and later was delighted to attend his grandchildren?s activities whenever possible. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Masons, Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, Chief of Hebron Rural Fire Department and drove ambulance. His favorite times were spent with his family, especially the grandchildren, having coffee with friends, and camping. Melvin and Irene traveled extensively with their camper and enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. Melvin is survived by his five children; Linda (Carter) Christiansen, Miles City MT, Rodney (Violet) Lagge of Escondido, CA, Bonnie (Larry) Reisenauer, Belfield, ND, Rick Lagge, Dickinson, ND and Susan (Don) Mayer, Dickinson, ND; grandchildren, Scott (Jill) Christiansen, Kimberly Christiansen, Shirley Robertson, Robert (Becky) Lagge, Dana (Bobbie) Martin, Shannon (Tara) Martin, Janna Lagge, Kathryn Lagge, Emma Lagge and Jason Mayer; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Walter (Jan); sister, June; sisters-in-law, Dottie and Karen; brother-in-law, Calvin Mutschelknaus and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene; granddaughter, Amanda Robertson; parents, Anna and Jacob; sister, Edna Ackerschott; brothers, Arnold, Richard, Charles and James.
