Funeral service for Melvin Edwin Schmitt, 66, of Dickinson, has been RESCHEDULED for 2:00 p. m., TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2013 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Gold officiating. Burial will follow in the Dickinson Cemetery.


Visitation for Melvin will be from 9:00 a. m. to 2:00 p. m. , TUESDAY, APRIL 9, 2013 at Stevenson Funeral Home.


Melvin was welcomed home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home in Dickinson. Over the past few weeks, he was surrounded by many caring friends, his three nurturing sisters, and the gentleness of Hospice.


Melvin was born February 14, 1947 to Emil and Margaret (Hyde) Schmitt in Miles City, MT. During his life, Melvin lived in Miles City, MT; Boulder, MT; Jamestown, ND; Grafton, ND; Stanley, ND; and most recently, Dickinson, ND. While living in Dickinson, Melvin received support from ABLE, Inc. Melvin worked at ABLE, Inc. Work Center and volunteered at Trinity High School. His greatest joys came from dancing and listening to music, talking about cars and attending Auto Shows, and fishing. He enjoyed the company of others and sharing stories with them. Melvin was a man who greeted others with a great smile.

Melvin is survived by his three half-sisters, Nora Hyde of Bowman, Jean Hyde and Agnes Hyde both of Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
