Melvin Snyder

Funeral service for Melvin J. Snyder, 46, of Belfield, ND will be 1:00 p. m. Monday, December 10, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Travis Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a. m. to 12:00 p. m. on Monday, December 10, 2007. Melvin passed away Thursday, December 6, 2007 at St. Alexius Health Center in Bismarck, ND after a fourteen year battle with diabetes. Melvin J. Snyder was born April 2, 1961 to Raymond and Nancy (Loar) Snyder in Dickinson, ND. As a little boy, he loved to help his dad fix things. Going to the farm was one of his favorite things to do. While attending grade school, Melvin was involved in various activities, one was being in the school play. In the play, he sent his mother a hand written invitation and even danced on the stage. One winter, Melvin saved all of his baby-sitting money so that he could buy his first dirt bike. In high school he taught a six week class on Wisconsin engines and built one himself. This earned Melvin his first and only ?A? of high school. After his father passed away, Melvin remodeled his mother?s house, giving her the stairway and walk-in closet she always wanted. He built a recording studio for a band while in high school and had his father?s talent for making parts that no longer could be purchased. He decided to work on an offshore oilwell one time and shortly after decided that water wasn?t his element. Melvin called his mom one time and said, ?Guess what? I?m going to work in a suit and a tie, fixing computers. ? It wasn?t long and that had him fixing the trucks too. He just couldn?t get away from mechanic work. Survivors include his mother, Nancy Snyder of Dickinson, ND; three brothers, Darrell (Margo) Snyder of Belfield, ND, Dennis (Stacey) Snyder of Belfield, ND; Jeremy (Bree) Snyder of Bismarck, ND; a sister, Kathy (Andrew) Quillmann, of Albuquerque, NM; a sister-in-law Patty Furuseth, Dickinson, and the nieces and nephews: Steaddmann Snyder, DJ (Mandy) Snyder, Sherrena (Dustin) Freeburg, Ashlee Snyder and (special friend, Aaron Mayes), Brittney Snyder, Jessica Snyder, James Snyder, Lexi Snyder, David Snyder, Wolfgang Quillmann, Trevor Quillmann, Steven Gwilt and four great nieces, Monster, Tookie, Bubbles and Uncle Fester and one great nephew, Dante. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; Grandpa and Grandma Grandvold, Grandpa and Grandma Snyder.
