Funeral Services for Michael Raymond Murphy, 21 of Baker, MT will be 11:00 a. m. Monday, November 20, 2006 at the Baker Assembly of God Church with Pastor Danny Winter officiating. Internment will follow in the family lot in the Beaver Lodge Cemetery at Ekalaka, MT at aprox. 2:30 p. m. on Monday. Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2006 from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at the Chapel. Michael passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle crash. Michael Raymond Murphy was born in Billings, MT on July 14, 1985. At the age of two, Michael joined his parents Daniel V. and Marvel J. (Coons) Murphy. Michael attended kindergarten in Plevna, and his early school years at Baker Elementary. He later attended school in Marmarth through part of the eight grade. Michael then returned to Baker where he finished school graduating with the class of 2004. Michael was raised and baptized in the Baker Community Church. Michael was an active member of the Fertile Prairie 4-H for ten years. He took part in various projects including horse driving, dairy, market beef, market lamb, swine and electricity. He went to the Champion of Champions with his market beef twice. His greatest achievement in 4-H was teaching a Shetland pony to drive from start to finish! In his ninth year of 4-H, Michael won every project class he entered. Through his senior year in high school, he worked as a cook at the Corner Bar in Baker. Many people still talk about the great steaks Michael grilled. Michael also worked a second job in the maintenance department at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. After his graduation, Michael joined the United States Navy. Prior to finishing boot camp Michael injured his knee and was granted a medical discharge. He returned to Baker where he did contract carpentry work before taking a job with Nabors Drilling. At the time of his death, Michael was an equipment operator for Fike Crushing of Sidney, MT. During his senior year in high school, Michael began attending the Assembly of God Church and youth group. He enjoyed his music and sharing thoughts from a prayer book he kept with him. Michael passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, MT as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle crash south of Roundup, MT. Michael is survived by his parents, Marvel and Dan Murphy, Baker, MT; his brother, Ian Murphy, Baker, MT; his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Ita Coons, Ekalaka, MT; his paternal grandparents, Mike and Esther Murphy, Baker, MT; his very special friend, Angela Dean, Baker, MT. and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
