Mass of Christian Burial for Mike Gaab, 84, of Dickinson, is Thursday, January 16, 2003, 2:00 p. m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Dennis Schafer, celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.


Visitation is Wednesday from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a rosary/prayer service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Mike passed away Monday, January 13, 2003, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.


Mike was born on January 24, 1918 in Yucca, North Dakota the son of George and Elizabeth (Himmelspacke) Gaab. As a young child he moved with his parents to their farm near Richardton, ND. He grew up and attended schools at the Taylor Country School. Mike was married to Regina Zentner on October 29, 1940 and to this union five children were born. Mike worked for Walter Hamann before moving to Dickinson were he worked with Bill Hamann. Mike helped with the construction of the Western Livestock Sale Yards. Mike married Eleanor Scholz Frenzel on October 3, 1979. During the years Mike was a field representative for the yard buying livestock through out Montana and North Dakota. After semi-retiring in 1982 Mike continued to buy hogs and livestock for various feeders for several years. He was an avid card player and enjoyed getting together with friends. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending auction sales and taking care of his chickens, cats and dogs. He had an extensive collection of old model cars, tractors and trucks.


Mike was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club Aerie #2328 and the St. Pius Verein.


Survivors include, his wife, Eleanor, Dickinson; a son, James (Anita) Gaab, Gladstone; two daughters, Kathleen (Herbert) Billman, Dickinson, and Linda (Layton) Olstad, Sentinel Butte, ND; step-son, Harlen (Jean) Frenzel, Williston, ND; four step-daughters, LaVerne (Tim) Frakes, Walla Walla, WA, Janel Deines, Glendive, MT, Annette (Richard) Rime, Glendive, MT, and Cindy (Dean) Dassinger, Bismarck, ND; two brothers, Julius Gaab, and Clemens (Rachael) both of Richardton; six sisters, Frances Weiler, Spokane, WA, Cecelia Garza, Renton, WA, Minnie Schulz, Mandan, ND, Agnes (Nick) Rehling, Richardton, Pauline (Alois) Gion, Regent, ND, Irene (Melvin) Geck, Glen Ullin, ND; two sister-in-laws, Marge Gaab, Park City, MT, Pauline Gaab, Richardton; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His parents, wife, Regina, two infant sons and three brothers, Anton, Leonard and John, preceded him in death.
