Funeral services for Mike Herberholz, 83, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Military Rites will be provided by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. CDT, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Visitation for Mike will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Prayer service being held at 6:00 p.m.
Mike passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson.
Michael Joseph Herberholz was born February 3, 1928 in New England, ND, son of Joseph and Emily (Jung) Herberholz. He grew up and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in New England. In 1950, Mike enlisted in the United States Army; serving until 1952. After being honorably discharge, Mike returned to the New England area helping his father on the farm. On January 3, 1956, Mike and Dorothy Johnson were united in marriage. To this union four children were born: Peggy, Michael, Carla and Roxanne. With his young family, Mike worked as a ranch foreman for several years. After the family moved to the Dickinson area; they continued to live in the country, allowing Mike to share his love of horses with his children and grandchildren. Mike broke many horses over the years for area ranchers. While working with his horses, he also drove truck for Daggett Truck Line for many years. In 1992, Mike received an award for driving two million miles without an accident. Mike always preferred hauling livestock because he stated “they could unload themselves”. His dream came true when he was able to build his home with his barn, corrals and horses. After he retired in 1992, he spent many hours just riding and telling stories.
Mike is survived by three daughters, Peggy Lee Herberholz of Henderson, NV, Carla (LeRoy) Fettig of Dickinson, and Roxanne (Vince) Ficek of Dickinson; one daughter-in-law, Laura Herberholz of Stephensville, MT; six sisters, Maggie Schorsch of New England, Margaret (Floyd) Schorsch of Bismarck, Virginia (Jim) Zoller of Bismarck, Mary (Lee) Offutt of CA, Betty Jane Herberholz of Dickinson, and Bev (Monte) Strand of Regent,; four brothers, Frank Herberholz of Mandan, Joey (Carol) Herberholz of New England, Bernie (Ginny) Herberholz of Bismarck, and Bill Herberholz of Seattle, WA; one brother-in-law, John Good of Rolla, ND; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emily Herberholz; one son, Mike Herberholz, Jr. ; one sister, Josie Good; four infant brothers; one sister-in-law, Blanche Herberholz; and two brothers-in-law, Edwin Schorsch and Chuck Burtts.
