The Funeral Mass for Mike Schmidt, 91, of Dickinson, ND, formerly of Mott, ND, will be at 10:00 a. m. , Thursday, February 22, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, ND with Father Boniface Muggli OSB, celebrating. Interment will follow at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Richardton. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 21, 2007 from 9:00 a. m. to 10:00 a. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, 10:15 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. at St. Benedict?s Health Care Center, and 11:15 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary and Prayer Service at 6:30 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Thursday visitation will continue one hour prior to service at the church. Mike passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson, ND. Mike was born May 20, 1915 at Willa, ND, the son of John and Rosa (Senn) Schmidt. He grew up and attended the Steiner Township Country School in rural Mott. Mike worked on the family farm with his parents. On November 17, 1936 he was married to Margaret Boespflug at St. Placidus Catholic Church, rural Mott. Mike continued to work on the family farm and eventually he and Margaret purchased the farm from the family where together they raised their five children. He enjoyed designing and building machines and equipment for his own use and helping other farmers with repair needs. In 1979 they retired and built a home in Mott. After retirement, Mike and Margaret enjoyed traveling. In 1990 Mike and Margaret purchased a home in Dickinson and made their home there. Mike loved to tinker and enjoyed creating different things to give to his family. Due to failing health, Mike joined his wife at St. Benedict?s Health Center in 1997 where he had resided since. Mike served as a board member of the Steiner Township in Hettinger County, ND. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Richardton and St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Richardton. Mike loved and enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include: two sons, Donald (Joan) Schmidt, St. Louis, MO, and Melvern (Linda) Schmidt, Richardton, ND; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; two sons; Virgil Schmidt and James Schmidt; a daughter, Vernice Frank; a daughter-in-law, Marjorie Schmidt; three brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandchild, Trinity Sweet.
