Milan passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck. Milan Carey “Mickey” was born April 18, 1941 in Deadwood, SD, the son of Carey and Helen (Hedman) Kendall. He grew up and attended school in Lead, SD, graduating from Lead High School in 1959. In his travels, he met Nola Sanger and they were united in marriage on September 19, 1964. To this union, two daughters, April and Erika, were born. The couple raised their family in Hettinger, later moving to Killdeer during the first oil boom. “Mickey” as his friends and family called him, worked in the oilfield on a roustabout crew for Bishop Construction. He was also a journeyman meat cutter throughout his life, learning the trade from the Co-op Grocery Store in Hettinger. In his days in Hettinger, he was also a member of JayCee’s and a volunteer fire-fighter. Along with working in the oilfield, Mickey worked at Jerry’s Super Value in Killdeer cutting meat for over 32 years. He worked at the store until two weeks prior to becoming ill. Mickey enjoyed drag racing cars in years past and was known as Grey Ghost. He enjoyed reading, going to concerts of all types, talking and even arguing over politics. Milan had a great recall sense and remembered everything he learned or read. Milan was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, Shriners and St. John Lutheran Church.

Milan is survived by his wife, Nola; two daughters, April (Greg) Bishop of Bismarck and Erika Martens of Ardoch, ND; four grandchildren, Carey, Alexis, Samantha, and Max; four great-grandchildren, Caden, Joslyn, Paris and Abriella; one sister, Mary (Richard) Chavers of Prattville, AL; one sister-in-law, Clayette “Tookie” Sanger of Portage, IN; two nephews, Rick and Casey Kendall; and four nieces, Jaime Kendall, Lori Chavers, Maryhelen and Beth Hedman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Helen Kendall; step-father, Chester Harris; brother, James Kendall; and half-brother, Albert Hedman.
