Mildred passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 at her home in Albany, OR.
Mildred Rambousek was born September 23, 1919, on the family farm seven miles west of New Hradec, the daughter of Wenzel and Julia (Luptak) Rambousek. She grew up helping with many of the farm chores. She attended New Hradec School through the eighth grade, which was one-quarter mile north of her parent’s farm. On June 18, 1944, Mildred was united in marriage to Adolph Polensky at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec, ND. The couple was blessed with one daughter, Irene. The family farmed 30 miles northwest of Dickinson, where they raised cattle, wheat, and feed for the cattle. In 1960, they leased the farm and moved into Dickinson. Mildred enjoyed their membership with the Golden Freedom Club and the trips they were able to go on. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, sewing, crocheting, fishing and woodworking. Mildred was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. In October of 2008, Mildred moved to Oregon to live with her granddaughter, Denise and her family. Mildred experienced many “firsts” while living there; including camping, riding in a boat, and trying many new foods. She enjoyed being around her great-grandchildren and watching them grow. Mildred was especially excited for her new great-granddaughter, Averi. She liked to sit and talk with her great-grandson, Drew about growing up on the Green River and fishing and was always amazed at the size of fish he would bring home. Once Mildred was homebound, she was able to spend a lot of time with great-granddaughters, Cierra and Sara; often joking about who was babysitting who. Mildred loved to watch the waterfall and wildlife from the back deck of her home in Oregon. She also enjoyed spending time with Denise’s daycare kids, who called her”Grandma” and watching them perform for her.
Mildred is survived by one, granddaughter Denise (Don) Henderson of Albany, OR; four great-grandchildren, Drew, Sara, Cierra and Averi all of Albany, OR; three sisters, Amy Dvorak of WA, Martha Meduna and Elsie (Leonard) Dvorak of Dickinson.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wenzel and Julia; husband Adolph; daughter Irene; sister, Mary Steffan; brother, Emil Rambousek, and infant brother, Louie.
