Funeral Mass for Mildred Kessel Talkington, 98, of Belfield will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield, with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard?s Cemetery in Belfield. Visitation will be 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson and continue from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield with Rosary and Vigil Services taking place at 7:00 p.m. A short visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from 12 p.m. ? 3 p.m. at the church in Belfield prior to the funeral mass. Mildred Victoria Kessel passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Care Center, Dickinson, ND on April 19, 2008 Mildred was born in Stark County Oct. 11th 1909, the daughter of Karl and Agnes (Lenhardt), Polanchek. She married Philip F. Kessel and to this union 16 children were born. Philip passed away in 1975. Mildred later married Harold Talkington of Belfield. Mildred was a self-taught musician, artist and poet. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters, and women’s American Legion Auxiliary, William C. Blair Post 144. She was a very strong advocate of children with disabilities. Mildred made every family member feel as if they were the most important, special person in her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her twinkling light blue eyes were always filled with love and laughter. Mildred is survived by 11 children: Phyllis “Tootsie” Roth, Belfield; Mrs. John Steiner, Patricia, “Patsy”, Belfield; Mrs. (Doc) Arneson “Shirley”, Belfield; Mrs. Dennis Bergman, Valarie “Cookie”, Cincinnati, OH; Leroy Kessel, Rapid City; Charlie and Leona (Binstock) Kessel, Belfield; Raymond and Cheryl (Payne) Kessel, Belfield; Lawrence and Jeannie (Gast ) Kessel, Fargo; Allen “Buttons” and Jean (Ungerecht) Kessel, Santa Fe, NM; Ralph Kessel, Belfield; and Tom “Harpo” Kessel, Belfield;one sister-in-lwa, Joyce Polanchek; sixty-three grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands, Philip and Harold, two sons, Phillip “Bunny” Kessel and Vernon “Skeeter” Kessel; three daughters: JoAnn Schroeder, Joyce Benham and an infant daughter, Darian Kessel; four brothers; four grandsons; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild.
