A funeral service for Morris A. “Bud” Brandvik, 88, of Killdeer, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastors Rachel Simonson officiating. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery in Killdeer. Military Rites will be provided by Ezra Barrows Post #46.
Visitation for Morris will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer.
Morris passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson.
Morris Alf Brandvik was born February 13, 1926 to Arthur and Margaret (Olafson) Brandvik in Halliday. Morris grew up and attended Mountain View Country School, and later school in Killdeer, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1943. In 1944, he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. Morris was honorably discharged in 1946, returning home to the family ranch north of Killdeer. He married Mavis Carlson on November 30, 1947 in Killdeer and to this union four children were born: Sandra, Carla, Ryan and Bruce. Together they farmed and ranched, raising their family north of Killdeer.
Morris enjoyed looking over the crops, cattle, and oilfield, and coming to town for coffee. He also liked to attend rodeos, reading the newspapers and his mail. Morris also enjoyed his grandchildren and attending sporting events.
Morris was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was also a member of the West Dunn Fire District Board, the ND Stockman’s Association, the American Legion Club, and was a past member of the school board, and the Dunn County FHA Board.
Morris is survived by his wife, Mavis; children, Ryan Brandvik, Killdeer; Bruce (Vicky) Brandvik, Killdeer; Sandra Hovden, Halliday; and Carla (Lynn) Schaible, Mott; 10 grandchildren , Sherry (Jeffrey Nelson) Hovden, Jan Hovden, Matthew Schaible, Amy Schaible, Reed (Amy) Brandvik, Eric, Brandvik, Nicole, Brandvik, Jordan Brandvik, Layne Brandvik, and Shayla Brandvik; two great-grandchildren, Lilly Brandvik and Annie Brandvik; sisters, Margaret Bandle, Killdeer; Wilma Deleissegues, Gonzalis, CA; sisters-in-law, Audrey Brandvik, Forsyth, MT; Nancy Brandvik, Bismarck; and Shirley Plagge, Dickinson.
Morris was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Arthur, William and Michael; and son-in-law, Walter Hovden.
