Funeral services for Morris K. Hovden, 95, of Killdeer will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, June 8, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Burial will follow in Killdeer Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. , Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a prayer service and time of sharing held at 6:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Morris passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, ND. Morris was born August 18, 1919 in Killdeer, ND, the son of Martin and Emma (Holstead) Hovden. He grew up on the family homestead west of Killdeer and attended country school for eight years before boarding in Killdeer through high school. Morris graduated from Killdeer High School in 1938. After graduation, Morris worked in Killdeer at the Anderson Livestock and Grocery. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1941 and served in the European Theatre during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945, Morris returned to Killdeer. On November 20, 1945, Morris and Monica Fettig were united in marriage in Killdeer. To this union three children were born; Maureen, M. K. and Shelly. The family made their home in Killdeer. Morris worked with cattle his entire life as well as running a grocery store. He also worked as a meat cutter and as a cattle buyer. After Monica passed away in 1970, Morris continued to work with cattle and cut meat. Morris was an avid card player and liked to go hunting, bowling, golfing, play softball, watch baseball and ride horse. He was a great cook and baker and enjoyed preparing food for company that came to visit. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Morris is survived by his son, M. K. Hovden of Killdeer; daughters, Maureen (Harold) Olson of Killdeer, and Shelly (Bruce) Scott of Tiffin, OH; grandchildren, Allene (Louis) Olson Nelson, Kirk Olson, Martin Hovden, Kathy (Justin) Scott D’Angelo, Tyler (Sandi) Scott; one great-grandchild, Garett Nelson; and a brother, Elsworth Hovden of Killdeer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Emma Hovden; and his wife, Monica; brothers, Simon, Sumner, Edgar and Marion; sisters, Ella Hovden, Myrtle Newcomb and Clara Monroe.
