Funeral Service for Muriel M. Lewis, 95, Dickinson will be 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Thursday, one hour prior to the Funeral Service. Muriel passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson. Muriel Mae Ganzer was born in 1920, to John and Rose Ganzer on a farm near Manning, ND. She lived on the farm until she was six, and then moved to Dickinson to attend Dickinson Public Schools. During her teenage years she worked at Woolworth’s, managing their famous candy department, and in later years, worked at The Fad in the dress department. She was baptized, confirmed and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. In 1941, she married Randy Slocum. This marriage was blessed with two children, Gary and Sharon. They moved to Portland Oregon where she became a beautician. She lived there for 30 years. After her husband, Randy, passed away she moved back to Dickinson to help care for her father, who was ill. They enjoyed fishing together at Patterson Lake. Muriel loved to dance and throughout her life dancing was always her most enjoyable pastime. With beautiful rhythm, she seemed to float around the dance floor. People often stopped dancing just to watch her. Muriel met Frank Lewis on the dance floor. Her love for dancing rubbed off on him and they were married on August 15, 1978. She had a great variety of interests; gardening, bowling, playing cards – pinochle, sewing, embroidery, ceramics, made a variety of Christmas decorations and ornaments and delved in other crafts. Muriel was very crafty and talented. Muriel always looked forward to going to the Elks on Friday evenings to socialize with friends. Muriel was a fantastic cook and baker. In addition to her bread and buns, the family remembers her caramel rolls and especially her sugar cookies. Her chicken soup with homemade noodles and fried chicken will also be long remembered. Her sense of humor, cheerful laugh and radiant smile will be a fond memory. She had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and at home. There was always a houseful of laughter and food as her family filled her home on the Holidays. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved her. She will, forever, live in our hearts.
