She grew up on a ranch north of Belfield and attended grade school at the Lee School near Grassy Butte and the Fairfield School near Fairfield, ND. She regained her skills 4 years later and went back to work part time serving as receptionist/miscellaneous support services for Mischel-Olson Funeral Chapel, a position she had held prior to her marriage and continued after the firm was purchased by the Stevenson family. She was an active part of the funeral home for nearly 30 years, working until the time of her death. Muriel was active and served in a variety of officer posts for Sons of Norway and was active in the Scandinavian Club. She was a volunteer at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, taught classes in Norwegian baking with recipes from Norway, created dozens of handmade quilts for the children of her brothers, sisters, cousins, and good friends.
